Be On the Lookout for Abbott's New Safety Screw Connector System

Abbott Nutrition has introduced a new Ready-to-Hang Safety Screw Connector System that was designed to reduce the risk of potential misconnections. The Piercing Pin Set currently on Ready-to-Hang containers will be phased out. Abbott Ready-to-Hang containers will begin shipping with the new connector system in mid-December.

Abbott spike sets that are currently being shipped include a Transition Set adaptor that will work with both the old and new systems as the change is completed. To use the adaptor, simply unscrew the existing cap on the Ready-to-Hang bottle and replace it with the Transition Set.

If you have any questions about this transition, please contact our Customer Care team

Avoid Creating Holiday Fall Hazards
Falls are a serious problem in nursing homes, with roughly 1,800 residents dying every year from fall-related injuries.1 As you decorate your facility for the holidays, make sure you're not inadvertently creating additional fall risks.

Residents can trip over decorations on the floor or have trouble maneuvering around them with a walker or cane. Similarly, while it's tempting to spruce up banisters and hand rails with garlands or tinsel, these decorations can make it more difficult for residents to get a firm grip.

Everyone loves basking in the glow of Christmas tree lights, but take the time to ensure that the light cords are tucked away from areas where your residents walk. If the cords must cross hallways or flooring, secure them with duct tape.

Last but not least, be sure to clear snow and ice from walkways, patios and driveways and quickly clean up any melted snow or salt that gets tracked into the facility by visitors.

Professional Medical can help you develop a comprehensive fall prevention strategy. To learn more, contact your ProMed representative or give us a call at (800) 648-5190.
