Building a Better Bedpan

It's safe to say that, given the choice, most people would prefer to not use a bedpan. Unfortunately, they're sometimes necessary – but that doesn't mean using them has to be an unpleasant experience.

Standard plastic and stainless steel bedpans are uncomfortable and sometimes difficult to use, especially for residents with medical conditions such as arthritis. If bedpans are not used carefully, they can also bruise or tear fragile elderly skin or contribute to pressure ulcer development.
Problems such as these were what inspired Judi Church, a nurse, to design a bedpan that was safer and more comfortable to use. The Comfortpan® doesn't dig into residents' inner thighs, cause lower back pain or overflow. In addition to providing a flexible seat that cradles residents' hips and prevents spills, the Comfortpan also supports up to 1200 pounds and holds more than two quarts of liquid.
