Today, March 22, marks the American Diabetes Association's Alert Day, a one-day "wakeup call" for the American public to find out if they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. The ADA is encouraging the public to complete an online Diabetes Risk Test that includes questions about weight, age, family history and other potential risk for prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. The results of the test will indicate whether the test-taker is at low, moderate or high risk for type 2 diabetes. Those who are high risk are encouraged to talk to their healthcare providers. U.S. Diabetes Index Launched The National Minority Quality Forum, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and CBC Health Braintrust have partnered to create the U.S. Diabetes Index, a compilation of information about people living with diabetes, their care and the trends that are shaping the disease in the U.S. The index's companion website, www.usdireport.com, offers more than 30,000 maps, charts and graphs depicting diabetes prevalence, costs, uncontrolled and pre-diabetes populations, co-morbid conditions and other indices broken down by geography, age, gender and race/ethnicity.
