In this week's LTC Connection, we wanted to remind you about the Barnes Foundation's Second Annual 5K Walk/Run for Life, which is coming up this weekend! You should also be sure to take note of our altered Labor Day delivery schedule and check out the good news about the latest "superbug." Last but not least, have you taken a look at our great line of OTC medications? If not, you should - they're a high-quality, cost-effective alternative to pharmacy medications.

If you're in the Chicagoland area, we hope you'll consider joining us this weekend for the Barnes Foundation's Second Annual 5K Walk/Run for Life! Even if you're not in the area, we would greatly appreciate your support.
The Barnes Foundation was established by ProMed's founder and president, Terry Barnes, as a way to give back to the community that has been so generous to his company over the past 42 years. Last year's inaugural Walk for Life raised more than $30,000 for the American Cancer Society's Illinois Patient Navigation Services and helped to fund the Road to Recovery program, which provides rides to cancer patients who are unable to get to critical treatments. This year's event will again benefit the Illinois Patient Navigation Services.
The event will be held at ProMed's headquarters in New Lenox and registration will begin at 10 a.m. To learn more about the walk, register for the event or make a donation, visit www.barnes-foundation.org.

You've probably read about a newly discovered gene variant, NDM-1, that has been found to cause some bacterium to become extremely resistant to antibiotics. Now there's good news. The CDC is reporting that there have been no new cases involving NDM-1 in the U.S. since the initial health warning in June of this year. They added that the bugs are susceptible to the use of some older antibiotics.
Several doctors at renowned facilities weighed in with the New York Times on NDM-1 and noted that while there are numerous strains of antibiotic-resistant germs, none of them have yet lived up to their "superbug" and "flesh-eating bacteria" stigma. In other words, there's no need to panic right now.
