Keep Elderly Skin Safe in the Sun
It seems like summer is finally starting to make its way into town! While it's tempting to soak in the sun's rays, elderly people need to take special precautions to protect their skin.

As we age, our skin gets thinner and more delicate. It's also less able to protect and rejuvenate itself. Since no single protectant is 100 percent effective in warding off damaging UV radiation, experts recommend taking a multi-step approach to protect skin.
  1. Avoid sunbathing and sunburn. Tanning isn't a good idea for mature skin that has already experienced a lifetime of sun damage.
  2. Stay in the shade. Encourage residents to stay on a porch or other shady area when the sun is strongest (between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.).
  3. Wear sunscreen. Dermatologists recommend applying SPF 30 sunscreen to exposed skin daily, even if your residents aren't planning on going outdoors.
  4. Moisturize. Elderly skin is likely to be dry, and sun damage and hot temperatures can make it worse.
  5. Choose protective clothing. Long-sleeved shirts and full-length pants provide great protection for elderly skin. You might also suggest wearing a hat.
  6. Accessorize! Shield skin from the sun with umbrellas and sunglasses.

Congratulations to Donna Schroeder, Promed's First Employee Spotlight Award Winner
Congratulations to Donna Schroeder, the first-ever recipient of ProMed's Employee Spotlight Award!

Donna has worked in the Purchasing department of ProMed for the past seven years. Her manager, Jim Arnold, shared what makes Donna such a valuable employee:

"She has never complained once and has never missed a day unexcused since she started. She is one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. She makes my job easier. She is my lifesaver. I am so happy that ProMed picked her as the first winner. Do you know she bakes every Thursday for the warehouse crew?"

According to Donna, working with Jim is the best part of her job. "Jim makes the job fun and is always there for you," she said. She's also proud to be a member of Team ProMed, adding that "Everybody here is very friendly and easy to get along with."

As the Employee Spotlight Award winner, Donna will be able to proudly display the Torch of Excellence trophy at her desk for the month of June. She was also given a $100 cash award.

Congratulations, Donna!
